LEARN TO SAIL
The Royal Channel Islands Yacht Club is a Royal Yachting Association (RYA) training centre for dinghy sailing and windsurfing. The Club runs courses and issues qualifications for the RYA’s National Sailing Scheme for adults and Youth Sailing Scheme for cadets and for the RYA’s Start Windsurfing qualification for adults and cadets. We are currently seeking to also become an RYA multihull training centre. In the meantime we do offer multihull courses, with qualified instructors, although we are not currently in a position to issue RYA multihull qualifications.
All course participants must be Members of the club. Cadet membership is available by a simple process of application to the club office. Cadets must be at least eight years old on the 31st of December in the year they attend the course. The overwhelming majority of attendees on our courses are cadets, but we are pleased to welcome keen adults.
All participants must be suitably dressed for the water. A wetsuit, possibly with a spray top, is ideal. In addition, sun protection, including a hat, and protective footwear (old trainers would suffice) are essential.
Courses can be booked through Eventbrite accessed via the link on this website.

POWER BOAT COURSES
The Royal Channel Islands Yacht Club is an RYA training centre for the National Powerboat Scheme. The club requires an RYA Level 2 Powerboat qualification for members who wish to get involved with club sailing activities using the Club’s RIBS for training, safety cover and/or mark laying duties. We can provide training for this purpose.
For Dinghy Instructors wishing to undertake Senior Instructor training, we can provide the necessary Safety Boat training.
This training is only for the purposes indicated above. The Club does not provide powerboat training for those not involved in the activities indicated above.

POST Brexit Update and travel advice
French authorities have given advice on the requirements for private boat owners following Brexit.
On their first arrival in France from Jersey, vessels are required to clear Customs and Immigration at a designated port of arrival. The requirement will be to notify the port authority at that designated port of their arrival. The port authority will notify the relevant border officials.
If, in exceptional circumstances, a vessel’s first port of arrival is not a designated port, that port authority must be notified to allow entry.
The designated ports (Points de Passage Frontalier or PPF) relevant to the Channel Islands are Brest, Carteret, Cherbourg, Granville, Roscoff, St Brieuc and St Malo.
